Research - The
Essence of Himalaya

Research lies at the heart of everything we do. The legacy of researching nature forms the foundation of Himalaya's operations. We have studied over 10,000 herbs and discovered many new properties. In just eight years, we have filed over 90 patents.

State-of-the-art R&D Center

Himalaya has invested in a state-of-the-art Research & Development (R&D) center in Bengaluru, India, which encompasses over 130,000 square feet of space and have a team of more than 200 physicians and scientists working in our R&D facility. The center is ISO-9001: 2008 certified.

Himalaya's Research

At Himalaya, we will continue to focus on research and build credibility for herbal medicines and personal care products. Our customers understand that all our products are a result of years of research. Today, over four million doctors and customers in more than 100 countries rely on us for their healthcare and personal care needs.

Taking Inspirations from the Legacy

Himalaya scientists and herbalists spend years researching the therapeutic benefits of herbs. We use over 250 herbs in our products, and each day we study many more. We use the most advanced technology available to determine the accuracy, safety and efficacy of drugs during the development process.

The results of our clinical trials are published in leading medical and peer-review journals. Today, over 400,000 doctors prescribe our products both as an adjuvant and as the first line of treatment.

Research on Herbs

Our founder, Mr. M. Manal, believed in the potential of herbs and of the various benefits of traditional medicine. However, he also believed that in order for traditional medicine to be widely accepted, it needed to be credible. Credibility of drugs can be achieved through scientific validation.

At Himalaya, research is not just about breakthrough formulations but also about filling the gaps in conventional medicine. We believe that herbal remedies can become the first treatment of choice for some conditions, and at other times, contribute to a holistic regimen that improves the quality of life. For instance, our cancer drug presently undergoing trials helps build immunity in patients on chemotherapy.

Contemporizing Ayurveda

At Himalaya, modernizing Ayurveda means making the system of traditional healthcare mainstream. Taking our cue from the Charaka Samhita, we have imbibed the knowledge of modern medicine in our products, and followed allopathic protocols to develop well-researched, safe and efficacious drugs.

Emerging with Bright Minds at Ras Al Khaima

We have partnered with the Ras Al Khaima Medical Health & Science University, a leading university in the United Arab Emirates, to promote joint research collaboration in herbal medicines.

The R&D center is a vital institution of higher learning. Several PhD students from universities across India conduct their research at our center under the supervision of Himalaya scientists.

Affiliation of Himalaya

Himalaya's R&D center is affiliated with one of India's leading universities.
We work closely with the University of Agricultural Sciences in Bengaluru to develop new therapeutic drugs, build a corpus of knowledge on herbs and protect endangered herbs and plants.
